Megan Spaeth

Licensed Acupuncturist. Teacher. Mother. Eternal Student.

I wanted to be a healer my whole life.

I am the oldest of five siblings, one of the oldest among fifty first cousins, and I loved that role. I was born a natural leader and with an innate desire to care for my loved ones. I used to make potions out of toothpaste and vinegar and pretend it could heal the fairies. I would take leaves off trees and tell my sisters it would heal their cuts. When someone had a cold I would ask my mom exactly what to do to help them. Taking care of younger people has never felt like a duty to me, it feels like my destiny.

I had dangerous reactions to vaccines as a child and began seeing a holistic pediatrician. I lit up looking through his case of homeopathy and hearing about ways nature could nurture our healing. I grew up fascinated with natural medicine, energy, and the deeper intelligence of the body. I wanted to be a pediatrician for most of my childhood. What I found instead was something far deeper and more complete.

When I discovered acupuncture after college, I had the incredible honor of studying with Dr. Jeffrey Yuen, an 88th generation Daoist priest and one of the most respected Chinese Medicine teachers in the world. Dr. Yuen teaches Classical Chinese Medicine, which is the study of the medicine before it was standardized under Communist China in the 1950s. Most practitioners around the world today are trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM, which works with 12 primary acupuncture channels. Classical practitioners work with over 60. This medicine can treat as deeply as the patient is willing to go: constitutional patterns, latent infections, immune dysfunction, trauma, chronic disease, emotional and spiritual imbalance, and the Daoist belief in living out your blueprint, your destiny.

The Ming Character

At graduation, Jeffrey gifts each of his students a Chinese character written in calligraphy that symbolizes something about them. When he came to me, he said:

“For Megan I want to offer her what is reflected when she smiles. When she smiles I can’t imagine anyone who would not want to smile back and I think that’s a gift to be able to make people smile, to make people feel lighter. The character that I want to present to Megan is a reflection of her already. That’s the character Ming. Ming means to brighten up. May she continue to shine and brighten up the lives of many who will come before her as patients and those around her now.”

Bringing light to others in hopes they can shine their own light to humanity is my mission on this planet. The medium through which I, personally, can spread illumination is acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

We often compare the healing mechanism to the phenomenon of light. Light comes into the darkness. I believe that when we vibrate at our highest potential, we naturally emanate that loving, healing energy to everyone and everything around us. My goal in every treatment, every episode, every course, is to help you shine a little brighter.

Why I Specialize in What I Do

My favorite things to discuss and treat are how to naturally help the things that have affected me and my loved ones the most: women’s health, fertility, pregnancy, and pediatrics.

I had terribly painful and delayed, irregular periods until I got regular acupuncture in my twenties. I know the toll that takes on the mind and body. I have three healthy children but I had two miscarriages in between them. I know the pain and isolation of wanting a child and losing a pregnancy and having trouble conceiving again. I had a lot of nausea during my pregnancies and treat many pregnant women who experience all sorts of complications. I know how hard it is to sacrifice your body and what can help. I birthed all my babies in a tub at home! I have assisted in hospital births and home births. I know the immense pain and fear and the peak euphoria and wonder of your child being born. After having my babies, breastfeeding was incredibly painful at first and I had various difficulties. I know the agony and guilt and the pride and intimacy of nursing your baby.

After those childbearing years, I’m trying to be the best mother to my children and keep them healthy in mind, body, and spirit. I know what it’s like to not know, to feel lost in handling a difficult child, to feel like the luckiest person alive to have this family, to mourn the days when I had more time and money and quiet, to laughing the hardest and adoring every word they say, to never wanting my kids to grow up, to struggling with my changing body.

I’ll share what I’m learning along the way, and how the core principles of Chinese Medicine have been my greatest comfort, physically, mentally, and spiritually. That is what I am here to pass on to you.

Credentials

I’ve been a licensed acupuncturist in NJ since 2009 and am the founder of Jersey Shore Acupuncture. I’m certified in Chinese Medical dietary therapy and in Advanced Pediatric Acupuncture. I have had outstanding results in my clinic treating children with non-invasive techniques and teaching parents how to recreate them at home. I created Little Qi: A Parent’s Course in Chinese Medicine for Children to help more people at once!

This is the work I was born to do. I am so glad you found your way here.
